Unreadable External Hdd

Recommended Posts

Oh yea, I would reformat in FAT32, then try to recover the pictures, if you cannot recover the picture I would recommend you reformat to NTFS.

Birddog,

I have used a program called "Image recall" to pull things off of drives that I couldn't get to work properly. If there was anything on the drive, it would find it and store it in a file. I have used it for memory cards and harddrives. If you really want to save the pics and stuff, you might give it a shot.

FznYupr, You can send me what?? LOL How do I reformat it?? I can't see it anyplace except when I run PC Inspector, or in disk manager it shows up under disk drives and says it is working properly.

Otto, I'll try Image Recall and see what happens, not sure it will see it tho.

Thanks for the tips.

I can send you an ISO of Acronis Disk Director Suite - you will have to burn the ISO file to CD then boot to the CD and reformat the drive. It should work.

Also if you right click on My Computer > Manage

Click the Plus sign in front of Storage

Click on Disk Management - if you see the drive you can reformat it.

Not sure how you can save any of the pictures.... Maybe after the reformat try to recover the pictures, You may get some back.

Good Luck Travis

I guess I had three ideas that wanted to come out at once.

1st. If you right click on My Computer > Manage

Click the Plus sign in front of Storage

Click on Disk Management - Do you see the missing drive here?

If you see the drive you can reformat it.

2nd. I can FTP you an ISO image of Acronis Disk Director Suite - An ISO image is a file format that your CD-R burning software can/should be able to read and burn to a CD creating a bootable CD. Once you burn this image to a CD you will then boot your computer from the CD. Once the application starts from the CD the Acronis Disk Director Suite will/should allow you to format the drive as long as it is not physically damaged.

3rd. If your going to trash it you could send it up here and I could try to recover it. OR I'm sure the geek squad at Best Buy can format it as well.

You had 3 more idea's than I am left with!!

OK, 1st I can't see the drive in disk management.

2nd. How do you FTP an ISO image?? I can try that.

And 3rd, if that don't work, i'll send it to you to play with. I wasted about 10 hours on this thing already!!

Thanks

FznYupr, you're the MAN!! I got my HDD back. Travis sent me Acronis disk directory suite and I ran it and it found my 160gb HDD. It was unallocated, so I just added a 160gb partition and now it works again. Thanks again Travis.
