New To Video

Recommended Posts

There's so much information on the forum from people experienced in this build, I'm having trouble finding a place to begin.

I've built a few trailcams with the BG1/BG2 and some DSC-P52's. The cameras are starting to die (they were used/salvaged when I got them), so I'm looking into replacing them with video units.

How do I get started? What is the recommended video camera? I'd like to have IR if possible. What boards are required? If I could re-use my BG1/BG2, that would be great but not necessary.

Basically, what is currently the most popular build out? Thanks!

Well the current popular cam right now is the DXG 567V. You can also use the Jazz DV-150 which was the last cam we were all using and still using. You would need the board to run these from BFOutdoors. They also sell the array as well. Then a lense to swap out the stock lense from electronics123.com. I know somebody must have already posted a list somewhere on a parts list that they can maybe post up here for ya. If not, we'll all get you going.

Here's a thread on the parts list for the DXG. The Jazz list is pretty much the same except that you would be ordering the BB233 lens from electronics123 instead of the BB224.

I agree with Bowgod that the DXG seems to be the most popular. It is an easy IR and camera hack and give you some color on the day videos instead of being pink. One firmware version of the 567v does do pink videos, but don't worry if you buy one, I have the firmware fix for it. Shoot me your email address and I'll send you the .pdf for the camera hack - but do the no brainer hack which in a link below.
