Wolfy.....a big mature sambar stag generally goes around 600 - 650lbs on-the-hoof. Hinds are smaller but still big enough at 400lb or so for a big girl ! And as we don't have the luxury of mules or pack-horses down here....they are generally broken down in the field and carried-out in bits on your shoulder or in a pack. A back leg on the bone cut thru the hip ball-joint goes about 90lb off a big stag. I had about a 5km on-way carry-out on that fella in fairly roungh country....not too bad...but it took me a day and a half to get all the bits and the head/cape back to my camp down the river.....the "fun side" of sambar hunting. 2011 Kansas buck 164" - taken on Nov 15, 2011 in Linn County KS at 36 yards with my Elite GT500

 

before - S40/Yeti

taken about 10-days before the plan finally came together about 3/4 of mile from where I harvested him trailing a doe across in a newly planted winter wheat field.

Thanks bro! the left brow measured just over 10 and the right brow measured just over 9 inches. He was only a 3.5 year old though, would have been a true giant next year
