Opinions On Ridge Vent Vs Attic Fans For Heat Control

Recommended Posts

My plans are to get new shingles installed this new and the contractor is trying to talk me into getting rid of my attic fan and installing ridge vent across the peak of my house. I decided 30 years ago not to use ridge vent but am open to suggestions this time around. I have one fan in the eaves at one end of my house and it is controlled by a thermostat. I have a 6/12 pitch roof which is fairly steep and a 2 story house. It is a full attic which you can stand straight up in and walk around. I have read the good and bad of both types of ventilation. How about some opinions for you Georgia, Florida, and Texas folks.

When I bought the house I am in now, the first thing I did was replace the roof. It had the whirly birds (what I call them), but I got rid of those and installed ridge vent.

Ridge vent hands down the best ventilation. You will be amazed at the difference in the temp. and you will even notice the difference in your use of A/C.
