Trouble With Ssii And L11

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, newb here and having some problems with my build. I am working with a SSII board and a Nikon L11 camera. I have completed putting everything together and was going to test the camera out and ran into my problem. The board will not turn the camera on. I am using just the 3.6v battery for the board and I have 2 AA batteries in the camera. I turn the switch on the board to on and leave the camera off and the motion LED flashes when there is movement but it doesn't tell the camera to come on. I have checked my soldering and it appears good with no unnecessary continuity anywhere. The camera will work if I turn it on manually and I can take pictures with it. Not sure what I did wrong so any help would be appreciated. I followed the wiring diagram on the snapshot sniper website.

are you giving the board enough time to go into picture takeing mode?

Did you remove the resister for a 4 wire hack camera? I think the L11 is a 4 wire hack

Could try switching your power and common around maybe

I did remove the resistor. I turn the switch on and the led flashes, it then flashes when it senses movement but after about two minutes it stops working totally. How long does it take to go into picture taking mode?

Welcome kansasfever. The SSII is a great little board. Have you tested the hack using the power & common wires prior to connecting it to the SSII? Usually, the walk test mode lasts around 30 seconds or so, so keep that in mind when bench testing. If you can be more descriptive with what you have done with your build, it will help us give you troubleshooting ideas.

pretty sure if there is movement before the walk test is done it starts the walk test all over again. try setting somewhere where there is nothing moving in front of it, turn it on and walk away for 5 minutes. then walk in front and see what happens. or aim it at a wall then after 5 min. wave your hand in front of it.

That's correct, each time morion is detected in walk test mode, the 30 seconds resets. After no motion for 30 seconds, then it enters camera mode. The LED won't light in camera mode, only walk test mode.

Ok guys thanks for the input. I have been scouting the last couple of days and couldnt get back on here. I will test my common and ground as soon as I get a chance. Now that I know about the walk test I should be able to figure it out. I guess I cant be too much more descriptive with my explanation. I basically wired the camera up exactly as stated on the snapshot website and connected the wires to the board in the same manner as it showed on the website as well. I may take it in to work and resolder it and make sure that isn't the problem. Thanks for the help guys.

Try jumping the wires to see if it works before you open it back up. Test it first by removing the wires from the SSII and touching the bare ends together. Then put the wires back into the SSII and use tweezers to jump the connections at the screw heads. Remember to first unscrew the screw terminals in the SSII before you insert the wires and then tighten them up.

It's been so long since I messed around with a L11 but wasn't there something where you had to swap the wires on the SSII if the L11 failed to take a pic. Seems like I remember something about that.

You know, I think you are right. If I remember correctly, power and power common had to be swapped for it to work.

I think that's right Gary. It's worth a try anyway. When I first got started in all this I bought L11s off of ebay and repaired them. Used them in several builds until I whiteness deer diverting from the trail a cam was on and going around it because she heard the lens extend.
