Lithium Battery Discharger/balancer Corrected 2/20/17

These are great!! Been using mine for quite a while now with no issues. In my opinion a must have if you use 18650 batteries.

If you are not using a charger that has "Storage Charge" function then the RCX 3 in 1 Discharger/Balancer is needed for long term storing of your 18650 cells.

Be sure to buy Power and Balance jumpers long enough for your application!!

 

Your cell holder will take the place of the RC battery pack when using it. The big red plug and wires are the main power from the batteries. The jumper with the smaller wire at the bottom is the balance jumper and the jumper at the top with the two small wires is the control for the balancer.

This is the power jumper plugs into the Balancer. Note the Male Deans connector.

You will need a jumper with a Female Deans connector on it to connect it to the PCB/Holder. I used a jumper like these and cut the male end off and soldered it to the PCB (Red to Positive and Black to Negative). Then simply plugged the Discharger's plug into it.

These are a pair (Male and Female Deans T connectors) minus the wires found on some Hobby Chargers and the 3 in 1 Discharger/Balancer.

4S JST-XH Balance Jumper (For 4 cells in series, i.e. the 4S classification.)

Red wire is Battery Positive #1 wire and the #5 Black wire is Battery Negative "Outside Black wire"

The 4S JST-XH jumper plugs into the Balancer's socket (Female JST-XH plug). The 4S socket has 5 pins. The bare wires on the other end will be soldered to your cell holders. Connect the wires to the cell holders as in this diagram.

Red wire is Battery Positive and the Outside Black wire is Battery Negative at the cell holder!!

Storing Lithium Cells

1. Batteries that fall under 2.5 volts per cell or die completely can be harmed beyond repair and become unusable. Be sure to never store discharged batteries for a long period of time.

 

2. Refrain from storing a battery that has been charged because the cells will move and erupt at different rates, and they will become unbalanced.

 

3. Have a 'storage charge' of 3.85 volts before placing the battery in storage. This will give the cell enough voltage to be stored for long periods of time, if needed. This type of battery cell discharges at a consistent rate and will have a better balance of power during use.

 

4. Check the voltage of your lithium polymer batteries with a Digital Multi-Meter once a month while they are in storage

 

5. Re-charge and balance your Lithium cells as necessary to keep them between 3.8V and 3.9V per cell

 

6. Store in a cool, dry place with a stable temperature of between 40 and 70 degrees F (4 to 21 degrees C)
