First Shed Of The Season

Recommended Posts

The snow has almost disappeared and it was so nice out today. Decided to head to one of my favorite spots to look for whitetail shed antlers. It is my first time out this year so far. Well, guess what? Found this nice antler within about 20 minutes! One of the most massive sheds I've ever found over the years. It makes my hand look small. Couldn't find the matching side, but you never know what is around the next corner. I'll keep at it... in a week or two. I usually wait until mid-March or so to start looking. My best day ever shed hunting was on the 16th of March several years ago.

Never had this guy on camera. [**** edit... Check out following posts.] Hopefully he sticks around. The droopy-end main beam should be a great identifier for him this upcoming summer/fall.

I made it back to look for the other side, but no luck. :-(

But...

As I was looking I was thinking back to a few years ago. Then it clicked in my brain! Back in 2012, I captured this buck in velvet on the same farm as I found this shed. It has the left side droopy end too! I think this may be the same buck. So let's say in 2012 he was 1.5, 2013 he was 2.5, 2014 he was 3.5. This next season he'll be 4.5. In this area, 4.5's can carry some impressive headgear. Maybe I'm crazy, but here's the evidence. S600 Fast Hack Yeti from August 2012.

Another angle. Only have two pics of this guy. Both in velvet.
