Lifepo4 Charging Caution (float Charge)

Recommended Posts

From the included Datasheet for LiFePO4 cells:

If the voltage of the cell is to be held at the charge voltage (after reaching 100% state of charge) for prolonged periods of time, the charge voltage should be lowered to the recommended Float-Charge voltage.

If I use LiFePO4 batteries I'm going to have to make sure whatever Solar Charger I use meets the requirements or set my Charge voltage for 3.45 volts to prevent overcharging. From what I have read LiFePO4 cells don't come with Protection because their chemistry is safer and they are not prone to venting fire if abused.

Always refer to the manufacture's recommendations for your specific battery!!
