Thought I had previously posted the 31057-13 board mods, but could only find the 31057 board mods posted, so here are the mods specifically for the 31057-13 board version of the Vivitar 2000.

The low power mods are step 1 and 2 below, and I also recommend removal of the 22K ohm resistor (step 3 below) to totally isolate the bounce back circuit components that are no longer used. I have also included instructions on elimination of the large external yellow capacitor (step 4 and 5 below).

Low power mods.
1) Remove the 1Meg resistor (or clip one leg), or remove the Neon light.
2) Remove the 10K ohm resistor (or clip one leg).
3) Remove the 22K ohm resistor (or clip one leg).

Note : you can also eliminate the bounce back detector by unsoldering the wires that go to it (or cut the wires), and this was done to the board in the pictures shown below.

Removal of the external 3.3ufd capacitor (large yellow capacitor)
4) Unsolder the wires on the board that go to the large yellow external 3.3 ufd capacitor (or cut the wires).
5) Jumper pin 1 and pin 2 together on the SCR (part number CR3AMZ).

(As always modification of commerical products is done at your own risk. Use extreme caution since high voltage exists within flash units. Take proper steps to assure all energy has been discharged (from the capactiors, etc.), before touching any component within the flash unit.)

Enjoy,
Don

Hello Dave,

Thanks, but nothing wrong with your mod posting.

I sure thought I had posted something on the -13 version before (I remember testing the discharge rate after I made low power mods to that board), but I sure can't find the posting. I may have buried that info in another posting that started out as another topic.

Beats me.

Don

Does anybody have a picture of where the red wire from the flash tube connects to the board for this version? The wire came off the board and I have no idea where it went to. mad.gif

Check out the first picture here, is that the same board? It is hard to find a pic that shows all the wires.

Does this help? Look at post #13 in this topic.

Also looks like the board on this site has the 13 on it.

There a couple pictures on there and really good one. But, the one red one from the flash doesn't look like its hooked to the board in the pic. Too bad there wasn't a pic with the flash in there. I'm wondering.... if the red wire would go to the capacitor. Thanks for the links! I'll just have to keep looking unless someone has a 2000 with this board that would want to take a look see for me.

I got to go but if you don't have it figured out I will look tonight to see what I have. I thought it was a red from the flash to the cap and a red from the same terminal on the cap to the board. Got to go.

Good luck tonight. Hope you down one. That sounds like it may have been how it was hooked up.

Thats the one. Does the flash capacitor have two red wires connected to it on one of the solder pads? One would be coming from the flash itself.
