I'm having problems with this. The board appears to be working, but the capaciter does not seem to be charging. I do not hear a whine and even though the slavemaster is solid green, no flash. Can anyone see where I might be going wrong?

When I did the ir/day p41, I kept breaking the wires off on the slavemaster. I would check all those wires first to be sure none are almost broke off. It was my fault though that they where breaking I kept pulling on them when getting everything to fit. The orange wire and green are the ones I broke and those are the ones to give it power. also make sure you have the slave switch on.

What viv board is that? The one I used the yellow and blue wire I soldered to the back of the board.

hey Ron,

did you cover the cds, so it thinks its dark ???.....I sent a pm and the boards I have are the 31057, tried to pm back and it wont let me....

if the cds isnt covered it wont charge, put some black electrician tape on it and I bet your good to go...looking at your picture again, is the switch in the right postion also ?

just checked, your switch is in the correct position.... so maybe the cds...

just watch your fingers since you have juice to that board.. blowup.gif ....it will wake you up if your sleepy too...... blink.gif

if the cds is covered and the switch is right then maybe the SCR is bad on the flash board....if you do a search, Dkirk has troubleshooting guides on here for most of these viv 2 k flashes... look for those and go thru the trouble shooting and see what happens....

it may be something simple like a cold solder joint (hopefully) on one of your wires.....how bout good batts ?....I learned from 212 to look for the simple things you would overlook real easy first then look for the hard stuff..... I also read that when 212 did testing on these bf protos the the flash sensor that see's the cams flash also needs to be covered..

Roger, what video is that..?..... it looks like the one guy is trying to smoke a banana and the other guy is torchin it for him....LoL...

heres one link to your board,
http://www.hagshouse.com/forums/index.php?...c=21031&hl=

heres a link with the exact same issue and board,
http://www.hagshouse.com/forums/index.php?...rouble+shooting

here are Dons tests for this board,

always make sure a modified flash board works properly before connection to the control board. I suggest you disconnect the 31657 board from the slavemaster, then run the following tests.

1) Connect battery to 31657 board for 20 seconds then measure voltage across the flash capacitor or flash tube. You should measure 280 volts.
2) With flash capacitor charged per step 1, touch the two ends of the trigger wires together and the flash tube should flash.

If the above tests do not work, then no point connecting the 31657 board to the control board until you get the 31657 board working properly. If the 31657 worked fine per the above two steps, then you know the 31657 board is working properly and can be connected to the control board.

Note : when talking about pins 1 and 2 on the SCR, the pins are 1, 2, 3 from left to right when looking at the side of the SCR that has writting on it with the legs of the SCR pointing down.

Don

I just found the truble shooting guide for this board,

Yep, as George and Dave have suggested, test the Vivitar board by itself (not connected to the Slavemaster), and then tell us the results.

I did the board check and it faild. Funny thing is that it is a board that i got from Dan when he had the garage sale and I don't have the equipment to properly check voltage and all of that.

I have a some 2800s which I am much more familiar with so I will make a build using them. Thanks for all of the help guys. If someone wants this board, I am more than happy to send it to them.

I don't think Dan would have done that either.

I love doing 2800s, I have it apart, hacked, checked and ready to go in the case. I don't know why I can hack these in 30 minutes and it took me hours to work on the 2000.

George, pm me your addess and I will send the board out. Hopefully you can make it work. Truth is I like the 2800's flash better anyway.
